Park Board and Canada One Athletic Foundation celebrate enhanced basketball courts during Kitsfest

August 18 2017

Kits Beach basketball courts

For summer sporting enthusiasts, Kitsilano Beach has it all—and now it is home to enhanced basketball courts!

The upgrades represent another unique collaboration between the Vancouver Park Board and Canada One Athletic Foundation, which worked together on 2007 upgrades to the basketball courts, as well as the 2013 restoration of the Kits tennis courts and installation of nearby palm trees and seating.

Courts resurfaced and painted

The two courts in one of the city’s most popular beachside locations received approximately $30,000 in recent upgrades. The courts were resurfaced and painted and new glass backboards and pads were added. Funding was provided by the Vancouver Park Board and partners such as Canada One Athletic Foundation and East & West Alum Craft Ltd.

City-wide, the Park Board maintains 39 outdoor basketball courts.

Enhanced courts celebrated during Kitsfest

The Park Board and Canada One Athletic Foundation will celebrate the enhanced courts during a basketball tournament at Kitsfest. Kitsfest, which runs August 18 – 20, is an annual sports and healthy lifestyle festival. The foundation’s future goals at Kits Beach include upgrading the Kitsilano Showboat, overlooking Kitsilano Pool, in addition to other sports and arts related enhancements.
